Relationships in the Motion picture, The Color Purple

In the world that we reside in, rhetoric always influences and is a

part of everything that occurs. Rhetoric, in its broadest impression, is

communication, and how persons relate with one another. The movie THE COLOUR Purple

is about relationships. Accordingly rhetoric plays an essential role in this

movie. Throughout THE COLOUR Purple the influence of rhetoric is seen in two

groups of people, the communicator, or rhetor, and the viewers. Celie, the

main character of the video, shows the impression of rhetoric in nearly every aspect

of her life. The ramifications of rhetoric in Celie's existence are apparent through her

relationships with Mr. Johnson, Shug Avery, and Sofia.

The relationship that Celie provides with Mr. Johnson is usually unbalanced

from the 1st time they fulfill. Celie's complacent and gentle mother nature leave her

at the mercy of Albert Johnson's extra dominant frame of mind. The rhetoric that she

expresses to him, of innocence and generally complying to his orders, forces her to

live a sizable portion of her existence sheltered and overshadowed by Albert, who

continuously beats her into
